No one avoids experiencing loss.
Loss of a childhood pet. Ignored by a friend. A class ring disappears. An illness. A death. Separation from friends and family. Theft of a treasured memory. Loss of peace. Retirement. Aging changes.
The challenge arrives and we must find ways of “coping” with loss. Maybe the challenge is identifying and categorizing the loss so we can make sense of our feelings and arrive at a path forward.
Because we repeatedly have this experience to one degree or another, we might already have strategies. The best defense is expecting that losses will be part of life. Change is expected and it often feels like loss.
Accept that life change will occur.
Plan ahead for change.
Surround yourself with supportive family and friends.
BE KIND to yourself, remembering you are not alone. Enter each day observing the good that is there. Accept the kindness that others offer. Take time to heal.
