Food and Water come to mind.
Fresh fruit in season. Ripe peaches and tomatoes. Potato soup. Chili. Homemade ice cream.
Other kinds of nourishment feed more than our bodies. Stories and poetry and music feed us too.
Most days we think of how to care for ourselves first and foremost. We eat well, entertain ourselves, communicate with friends, exercise, read and pet the dog.
We can use all of these same strategies to offer care for others. We read and sing to them, feed them, massage them, tell stories, or funny jokes, and let them pet our own dog. All sorts of reaching out to others will provide human, loving, healing touch. This is nourishing.
One secret about caring for others is that it is a two-way street. In giving, we benefit too.
Generosity motivates us to caring outreach. Share the soup. Send a card. Call folks.
Engage yourself in care!
